It's like the Borrowers but in a graphic novel format This is volume one and it doesn't have a complete story arc so the reader is left wondering what is going to happen The concept art and worldbuilding sections in the back are interesting than the story You'd be better off reading The Borrowers at least until all three volumes are published At least that way you would have a complete story

7 Kara Volume 1Human family moves into the house her family lives near Will Kara make a new friend Or is there something darker possibly dangerous in store for her7 Kara is an ongoing watercolor children's comic written and illustrated by Becca Hillburn Collected in this first volume are the first four chapters of the main comic a bonus story featuring Kara and a selection of concept art Full color 112 pages of content 71 pages of comi. I read this all in one sitting and honestly this comic is a huge disappointment I’m a huge studio ghibli fan so it’s very obvious that ‘7 inch Kara’ is a huge rip off of ‘The Secret World of Arrietty’ Every plot beat and character is exactly the same Curious tiny girl who is interested in humans and goes against her parents wishes Check Dad who is overly protective of his daughter and mistrusts humans Check Human who moves into a new home with their friendly cat and is interested in the tiny girl Check The dad even hurts his leg just like in the movie It’s such an obvious steal that I can’t believe this artist doesn’t feel any shame for what she’s doing There is no originality here what so ever The idea of small people living in a human world is interesting and there are so many things you can do with it Yet this artist is riding the coat tails of someone else’s work and doing a bad job at that The pacing is extremely slow the characters are super forgettable and there is hardly any world building Instead of buying this book just buy your kid ‘The Secret World of Arrietty” The only difference is that the art in the movie is beautiful while the art in this comic is made by a beginner who doesn’t really know how to utilize watercolors effectively It’s splotchy muddy and has pretty unfortunate anatomy problems I usually love traditional work but the way it’s applied is sadly unappealing and I feel like if it was digital art a lot of these problems could easily be fixed 1 star
