There are certain colors to which each of us gravitates for various reasons For instance my favorite color is green because I love trees the great outdoors and fresh air and find it hard to be confined in an area where there is no green space or everything seems gray In this picture book 15 children's book illustrators identify their favorite colors tell why and then draw something featuring that favorite color The double page spreads from each artist are uite special showing great versatility and originality Some such as Melissa Sweet and Yuyi Morales are very specific in their choices selecting Maine morning gray and Mexican pink respectively Although I appreciated all of the illustrations I was particularly drawn to William Low's Brown because my mother grew up in the Bronx and his images seem to fit what she described to me and to Lauren Castillo's White because she captures exactly how snow magically paints the world white unpaged My senses were filled with joy at Bryan Collier's Blue and Etienne Delessert's Indigo Oh I'll just confess that I loved them all and couldn't resist looking at each one for long periods of time The thumbnail sketches in the back matter offer additional information about each of the contributors
