REVIEW Ú The Revolution of Birdie Randolph Ì Perfect for fans of Nina LaCour and Nicola Yoon comes a novel about first love and family secrets from Stonewall Book Award winner Brandy ColbertDove Birdie Randolph works hard to be the perfect daughter and follow the path her parents have laid out for her She uit playing her beloved soccer shXtbooks and she's on track to finish high school at the top of her class But then Birdie falls hard for Booker a sweet boy with a troubled pastwhom she knows her parents will never approve ofWhen her estranged aunt Carlene returns to Chicago and moves into the family's apartment above their hair salon Birdie notices the te. Okay this whole story was really very sweet In amongst a turmoil of angsty family drama the butterflies of finding your first love and the stress of having super strict parents I also listened to the audio and really liked the narrator Plus the book just had this fantastic pace and was so easy to listen toit finished too soon šŸ˜‚little list of things to love šŸ„°āž¢ lots of Black joy as Dove falls in love and follows her heartāž¢ really nice secondary character ueer rep Dove's best friend Laz is gay and there's an ace side characterāž¢ talks deeply about addiction how it's a diseaseāž¢ a lot of second chances and how good people can do bad thingsāž¢ SO many family drama twists that were just excellentāž¢ summer vibes stress less laze thoIt's eual parts family and romance focusedDove's rather suffocated by her extremely strict high achiever mother literally made Dove give up soccer which she loved because she wasn't good enough at it And Dove is falling love with a soft boy with a bad past who her parents so wouldn't approve of Booker and Dove are the sweetest The book is hugely focused on their first times and butterflies though so just know you're going into a romance But I loved all the dynamics between Dove and her sister Mimi and then Dove and her ex addict aunt who comes out of the blue to live with them and brings a bucket load of secrets along with herAnd Dove was just lovely šŸ„ŗšŸ’›Figuring out how to break rules follow her dreams but also she really loves her parents and they so love her It was complicated I do think her mother at the end needed to have changed and it left so many loose ends I would SO take a Laz spin off omg I adore Laz so much This was sweet but also had some plot twists and betrayals and was great read I've got Finding Yvonne by Brandy Colbert to read soon and I'm glad she writes so much
