The Rake and the HeiressTance Accepting Nicholas’s offer of assistance Serena soon discovers the forbidden thrills of liaising with a libertine – excitement scandaland a most pleasurable seduction. I love Marguerite Kaye's books all are good some are completely addictive This one was a little disappointing although I enjoyed it I have come to expect a lot It was a sweet romantic story it certainly compared favourably with others out there especially if you are just looking for a fairly lighthearted regency romance The writing as usual is above average but the storyline mediocre No real twists and turns and a fairly predictable storyline although there was a surprise at the end I have come to look forward to Marguerite's fabulous descriptive passages which always transport me to the place and time very little this timeI am sorry to only award it 3 stars but I would still recommend it as a lovely sweet read and if you haven't read any of her other books you won't be disappointed

This was a very entertaining read and a great way to spend a stormy evening All too often the word Rake is used to describe any man who has a bit of life in him but that's not the case in Marguerite Kaye's books Nick Lytton really is a man who has scandalised the ton with his way of life and devil may care attitude When we first meet him half naked in public and behaving in a manner unbecoming a lord he is hiding from society and preparing to flee to the continent if his duelling opponent dies He sets his sights on the heroine Serena and makes it obvious he doesn't intend to treat her in a chaste manner He is uite simply deliciously naughtyFor her part Serena is feisty and determined but not overbearing as so many assertive females are wont to be The line between fighting for what you want out of life and being a selfish bitch is a fine one and too many authors get it wrong leaving me hating the heroine and wondering what on earth the hero sees in them Marguerite Kaye does not fall into that trap I can relate to everything Serena does and she never loses my sympathy or my supportThe two lead characters have a great chemistry and the witty repartee between them made me chuckle a number of times The story itself is satisfying as well enough happening to make it interesting but not so much that we are dizzy from it and all of it believable This is a book I will read again
