50 Modern Artists You Should Know doc Î Paperback ☆ christiane weidemann ☆ A century and a half of masterpieces is covered in this chronologically arranged volume that beautifully captures the development of art in a new age Starting with James Abbott McNeill Whistler and ending with Matthew BaEd timeline spans the entire volume showing overlapping careers and important historical dates From the impressionists to the surrealists the cubists to the pop artists readers will find a wealth of information as well as hours of enjoyment learning about this popular and prolific period in art histo I love this book easy to read and provides so much information some of it new some of it remembered I bought it for my children and set it on the kitchen table so they could learn a few thingsand there it sat unopened for the past month Finally I sat down with it myself to take a peek and ended up reading through most of it in one sitting The book contains a one page summary of each artist's upbringing influences and significant works Each artist's lifespan is depicted on the top of their page with a bar graph shown relative to other artists and major events There is also a chronological list of the author's personal and professional milestones on each page Artists are in chronological order beginning with James Mcneill Whisterler born in 1934 and ending with Matthew Barney born in 1967 The back of the book contains an informative glossary of artistic termsThe only downside is that there is no explanation of why these artists were chosen although most are well known and there are very few photographs of their worka few have four or five examples some have only one I'm not artsy enough to debate if anyone deserving was left out but it seemed like a very good selection of 50 artistsI really hope my kids will take a lookwell worth it
